GZDOC 2019 has officially released the entry call for films and projects on March 18th. It was announced at a press conference held during the Hong Kong International Film Festival. At the press conference, GZDOC reviewed the achievements made by the 2018 edition and highlighted the changes for the upcoming festival.

The Golden Kapok Award Competition and Screening
The Golden Kapok Award Competition is dedicated to recognizing talented filmmakers as well as their outstanding contributions in the realm of documentary. A few changes will be made in a bid to broaden the selections, including the introduction of new awards. A total of 15 awards will be presented to 16 winners, while two winners share the GZDOC Outstanding Achievement Award. Below is the complete award list:

Golden Kapok Special Screening: Premiere in Guangzhou

In 2018,GZDOC successfully launched the Golden Kapok Special Screening: Premiere in Guangzhou. One of the highlights of the special screening events is the Asia premiere of Mountain (2018), an Australian production. The incredible visual experience as well as the stunning story-telling skill of the film appealed to the Chinese audiences. The screening received tons of positive comments, which marked a milestone for Premiere in Guangzhou. For this year, the GZDOC will bring more quality international documentaries to China.

‘China Story’ International Pitching Session
CCTV Documentary Chanel Special Pitching Session
The ‘China Story’ International Pitching Session aims at cultivating China stories that appeal to both domestic and global audiences. By collaborating with top-notch documentary institutions and festivals around the world, the GZDOC provides filmmakers with potential funding opportunity, production consultancy, distribution channel, and publicity resource through the pitching sessions. In 2019, the ‘China Story’ International Pitching Session will again gather film fund managers, international studio executives, and co-production partners as the decision makers.
