Emma Xu is a curator and producer. Since 2015, she has been in charge of film selection, competition, pitching and forum of documentary unit of Shanghai International Film Festival. She has invited many world's top documentary masters and impressive masterpieces to China, contributing to the promotion and popularization of documentary film in China. From 2015 to 2019, she was also in charge of the competition section of the documentary unit at Shanghai Television Festival. In the past ten years, she has worked in Shanghai Media Group and has gained abundant media experiences and resources.
Her documentary production such as The Broken Ridge was shortlisted for the competition unit at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, One Day landed the competition unit at the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival. As a co-producer, her works The Fading Village was shortlisted for the competition unit at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and was shown at a dozen of film festivals including Visions du Réel in Switzerland, Her Married Name has been selected at 2021 West Lake International Documentary Festival. Her latest projects in production includes: Dancing Budgie, 30+ and Staring at the West Lake.
In 2021, Emma Xu was appointed as the final jury of the Copenhagen International Documentary Festival, the decision maker of the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival, the venture capital conference at the West Lake International Documentary Festival, Guyu Project in 2019, and CNEX Chinese Documentary Proposal Conference in 2018. Besides, she promotes and shares documentary related knowledge and experience at universities' workshops and public activities in museums.
