Film Introduction
The docuseries tells the story of Germany’s famous red-light district and the cat-and-mouse game between Special Unit 65 and its outstanding opponents. The series merges interviews, archival footage and fictional elements into a narrative arc that is both enthralling and intellectually inspiring.
Film Creator
Georg Tschurtschenthaler, Two-time Grimme Award winner Georg Tschurtschenthaler studied economics and communication sciences in Vienna and, after a gig as management consultant, has been working as Showrunner, Writer and Producer in the documentary field since 2003. In total, he is responsible for over 30 projects, many of them award-winning. Since 2009 he has been working as Senior Producer for films and interactive projects at Berlin-based gebrueder beetz filmproduktion. In addition to feature documentaries (including THE FORUM, THE CLEANERS), award-winning TV documentaries and series (including Netflix’ A PERFECT CRIME), Georg is also responsible for cross-media TV events such as SUPERNERDS (interactive TV show, game, theater, book), UPLOADING_HOLOCAUST (75 min film, web format) or GOODBYE, COMRADES! (6×52 min TV series, book, web format). Most recently, he conceived and realized the first season of high-end documentary series REEPERBAHN SPECIAL UNIT 65 and the first German non-fiction NETFLIX original A PERFECT CRIME (Book: Georg Tschurtschenthaler, Christian Beetz; Director: Jan Peter, Georg Tschurtschenthaler). In addition, he regularly teaches at the ZHDK Zurich (Cast course), the HFF Munich or the CPH:Doclab. For his work as a producer on GOODBYE, COMRADES! he was awarded the Grimme Prize in 2012. For the production WAGNERWAHN he was nominated as Producer for the International Emmy 2014. In 2019 he received the Grimme Award for THE CLEANERS. The film celebrated its world premiere at the Sundance International Film Festival and was nominated for an Emmy, among others.
Ina Kessebohm, Born in Hamburg in 1982. Studies of Media, Psychology and Sociology in Trier, Cologne and Buenos Aires. After having worked in the editorial departments of various documentary production houses in Germany and being responsible for a wide variety of doc-focused projects, in 2016 Ina successfully established herself as freelance author, director and producer. Her works as author and co-director include REEPERBAHN SPECIAL UNIT 65 and MOSSAD – ISRAEL’S SECRET FIGHTERS (2020).
Carsten Gutschmidt, Born 1975 in Aschersleben, Germany. Berlin-based. After several internships in the feature film world (incl. lighting design for Tom Tykwers LOLA RUNS) Carsten worked as Assistant Director to Director Philipp Stoelzl (SCHACHNOVELLE, DER MEDICUS) at DoRo Berlin Filmproduktion. Since 1998 Carsten works as Director for music videos (incl. Paul van Dyk, Apocalyptica), commercials as well as documentary films and series, most notably REEPERBAHN SPECIAL UNIT 65, DIE LIEBE DES HANS ALBERS (2021) and LENINGRAD SYMPHONY (2017).
